Chicken Buses

A “chicken bus” is a English name for a colorful modified and decorated US school bus and transit bus that transports goods and people between communities in Honduras and Guatemala. In many cases driven from the Southern US to Guatemala.

They are privately owned and are decorated according to the owner/driver’s tastes, not to mention the name of his current girlfriend… They run between the country Mayan villages, often crammed full of people, farm goods, and yes, chickens!

The buses are also commonly used in Nicaragua, El Salvador, Panama, and Costa Rica.

There is a chance that maybe a bus YOU used to drive or ride on is here!

Lets look at some of these. Some are pretty decent looking, but others…Well, judge for yourself…

It’s really amazing the colors that you see on these old buses…Remember, they were once yellow! Also it shocks me a little bit to see how new some of these buses are. Some are the nice new style International chassis.
